Waiting, Weed and Water

So today I had my first MRI ever. I thought it was rather ironic that while I was filling out the standard "Why-are-you-here?" questionnaire, the refrain of the song that was playing included the phrase "conked on the head". Yes, God does have a sense of humor.

The waiting room was amazing. Let's just say that it looked like the Pottery Barn or Rejuvenations model for waiting rooms. My, it was fancy! I was actually sitting on a couch when I took the picture.

I was quite curious to see what the MRI would be like, and thankfully, it wasn't horrible. When they put the mask over my face and started to slide me in I had the feeling that you get when you are about to take off on a roller coaster. Which wasn't the feeling I was expecting but it was much better than feeling claustrophobic! The only thing I found annoying about it was how loud the banging could be, but I was quite entertained by the variety of banging and I mean to look up the different types. Sometimes the banging would be the same beat as a hymn and then I would have that hymn playing over and over and over for three minutes in my head. Entertaining for the first three rounds only.

Here is a picture of some local "street art" in Portland. When I first saw it, I'd just finished watching Banksy's documentary, so I actually noticed it. If you can't tell from the picture, it spells M_ddle Class with a hangman on the side. So far I had come up with two meanings for the missing "I", but as mom pointed out today, maybe it's supposed to say "Muddle Class"

Also, I thought you would all like a picture of the store that's recently moved in across from our chiropractors office. You can't really tell from here, but it's a weed store. Portland is weird.

And finally a shot from yesterday. Mom and I had to drop by Champoeg State Park while running errands and we took twenty minutes to walk down to the river. It was beautiful and felt so full of spring for 10 minutes and then, of course, it started raining.

Some Snow

Yesterday, all day, there were rumors of snow hitting the Portland area. Usually I don't take them very seriously, as it seems like whenever the weathermen predict snow it never happens, and when it does, they always seem surprised.

We did actually get a little bit of snow last night. And what made it fun was the layer of ice that was underneath. The ice was actually thick enough that I could slide on our gravel driveway. It's been awhile since I've been able to do that!

This morning we went out to explore.. as in I, Andrew, Daniel, Jacob and Ellen, (basically all the irresponsible people who didn't have to go to school or work, mwahaha!) We did some skating, attempted to sled down the driveway, but only Daniel and Jacob were light enough for that, and we walked down to the "pond" to see Uncle Roger.

This is Uncle Roger's Arctic Explorer Look.

On the way back, I took this shot of the house which shows the sheep looking forlornly at me. They hoped I had food when I walked by them the first time, but I betrayed them and gave them nothing.

Doesn't this looks so cozy?
We then all tramped inside and had a marvelous day of not doing much.

I did knit some. I'm in a race with Sally to see who can finish their sweater first. She's undoubtedly going to win as she can knit way faster than me (and play the piano, too). It's all in her fast fingers. I'll post a picture soon.

This evening the youngsters (ie, everyone under the age of 50) took a traditional night time stroll. We always seem to take a walk at night when its snowy, and I think part of the reason might be is that we've usually spent all day cooped up by the wood stove 'cause its warm. So anyways, we were hoping to see more stars but it was so bright because with the the full moon and the white snow the stars were rather faded.

As a side note, Tyler and I decided not to do our barefoot running this morning. Not that we truly run barefoot, but brrrr, I can't even imagine how cold that would be.
